What is the rental market like for 3 and 4 BR detached single family homes in Bethesda? Are units available?
What are rents like? Do the vast majority of people who want to live in the area simply buy?

Michael,
If you are going to stay for more than two years, it is benefical to do the math and determine if the tax write off is worth it. Rents are higher than surrounding areas and property values are holding strong. Sat Jul 19 2008, 03:59 Web Reference: http://buyandsellexpert.com

Hi Michael:
There are also single family homes for rent in Chevy Chase and Rockville. Where are you relocating from? Are you going to be working in DC and looking for a convenient area to commute from? Bethesda is a great location, with many restaurants, shopping, and cultural events. How long are you planning to live in the area? If you are staying for more than 2 years then purchasing a home may be the way you want to go. If you'd like to look on my web site you will see what is available for rent and purchase. My web site will show you what is available for rent or purchase. Wed Nov 21 2007, 14:12 Web Reference: http://www.northropteam.com

Strictly looking for 3 and 4 bedrooms (and ignoring ones with more bedrooms) detached SF homes in Bethesda I found 32 ranging in asking monthly rent from $1,950 to $4,700. You can do a free search and check these out on my web-site.
In the past people used to have to buy because the supply of rentals of this type was limited. In the current market there is a reasonable supply of rentals. When the buyer's expectation used to be for the market to rise immediately there was a greater propensity to buy to gain on equity -- even for people thinking about a short time horizon. There are 55 active properties to choose from meeting your criteria today. The monthly rents range from a low of $1950 to over $5000 a month. Bethesda is a very expensive area so buying vs. renting can be answered based on your financial situation and the amount of time you will be in the area.
