What are some good real estate publications or websites for statistics and current to future market?

Asked by Abigail, Chicago, IL Mon Nov 19, 2007

conditions in Chicago? Whether you have to pay for them or not, I want to know where regular folk as well as professionals get there information on how the city is progressing or regressing. Obviously information is available in a wide variety in this field, are there any good sources you have found that are nontraditional or I wouldn't have thought to look? Thanks!

I run my numbers direct from the MLSNI that include Chicago area sell prices, variances from last year compared to this year, sales increase/decreases, etc. This is actually the best way to see numbers first hand by Chicago towns/neighborhood. For overviews, trends and narratives my choices are Crains, RealEstateJournal, Inman Real Estate News, USAToday.

Abigail, I find to be a good resource for market statistics - they are published monthly. If you are working with an agent, they can subscribe you to the site. It also provides detailed information on a number of buildings in the city.

The Chicago Association of Realtors also has updated their site - Illinois Assocition or Realtors is also a great resource for issues and statistics related to the real estate industry in Illinois.
