Is it worth the expense of extravagant upgrades to 3BR house in Laurinburg?

We are going to be fixing up our parents place in the Scottsdale area of Laurinburg. It's a typical rancher built in the late 60's and needs a face lift. We can't decide if we should dump a lot of money into improving the layout of the house or just make small superficial upgrades. Will it bring up the value enough to make it worth it? Or is it just going to be hard sell no matter what b/c the Laurinburg area is in such decline? Thanks for any advice from anyone familiar with the housing market in that area.

Good Afternoon,
It is always a good idea to spruce up a home especially one built in the 60s or even earlier. Without seeing the home in person it would be difficult to say just exactly where the best value for your dollar would be in the home. I am not sure that a market analasys is the total anser in determining where to make the improvments. I would have many more questions that would need to be answered in order to get you started in the right direction on the project. Feel free to contact me at bobr@laroseandcompany.com I will be happy to speak to in depth about your project.

Hey there! I am a real estate agent in Laurinburg. If you are planning to fix the home up to re-sell I would first reccomend a Market Analysis on the property. I will be happy to do one for you free of charge if you would like to contact me directly. Without seeing the home its hard to say what needs to be done. Simple updates such as fresh paint in a neutral color goes a long way to update a home. If there are hardwoods under old carpet -pulling up the carpet it a great way to add a face lift as well. Painting kitchen cabintet and changing the hardware can make a huge difference in a dated kitchen. These are some of the least expensive ways to make a home look fresh. Of cours if there is water damage in bathrooms, or ceilings, those can be major issues. Scotsdale is a well established area that is still sought after. Also, though we do have lots of homes for sale in Laurinburg, I do not consider us on the decline. We are actually adding new businesses to the area as we speak. This is the new hot spot for folks moving from up north instead of heading to Florida as well as folks coming up from Florida. It is actually a wonderful place to live. I hope this helps you. Please feel free to contact me personally for a market analysis of the property and any further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you!
