Is anyone else seeing baby boomers buying retirement homes in their area now, even though the housing market?

is down in most other areas? Foreclosures are through the floor just 50 miles away in Bakersfield, CA, yet we are selling retirement homes and mfg. homes now or properties that will become retirement homes within the next 5 years. Is it because of the "buyer's market" low prices or some other factor? Is this happening nationwide in some areas or only in recreation-type areas?

Yes, we do sell a lot of home here in Nevada County, CA to retiring couples. Often they buy now and rent for a few years before they retire and move here. Nevada County is a perfect retirement area. We are in the Sierra Foothills with two beautiful gold county towns, Nevada City and Grass Valley. We are 1 hour and 15 minutes from Lake Tahoe, one hour from Sacramento and 2 and a half hours from San Francisco.

There are great recreation opportunities of all kinds. There are excellent art and entertainment venues. We have a number of wonderful restaurants. And we have a highly rated Hospital and medical community.

You will find a lot of information on Nevada County on my website; http://www.NevadaCountyMLS.com.

Thanks,

Yes, a number of referrals I have gotten are Boomers who are planning to retire and looking for property in the places they want to retire - they want to buy now, if the value is there. They will retire in 1-3 years from now, and they think the market will be moving up by then. smart planning.
