Is Jackson, Mississppi a good place to rent at this time? Is there a strong rental market?

Thanks for information. I was just curious since I noticed that the overall population in Jackson shrank over the past several years and wasn't sure if this had an effect on the rental market.

The rental market in Jackson, MS depends on the price point that you are looking at. Higher end rentals are found in the Brandon or Flowood area. These are just outside of Jackson. In those areas you could find a nice place for around $1000 to $1200.
