What is going on???????
I am a local REALTOR in Elko, we have been receiving a lot of phone calls from people getting these letters. If I were you I would contact a REALTOR, we could give you a better idea of where your property is and what your property is worth, what is going on in the area of what you own, etc....
If they are worthless... think about it. Worthless to you but do they know something you don't know?
I think N.R.L.L. might the company I'm thinking of too. I have the letter at the office, I'll look in the morning. They didn't do anything wrong, it just seems strange for a out of state company to offer to buy land sight unseen.
I own a bit of land in my area and I sell a lot of it. Myself and some of my clients frequently get letters from an auction company called N.R.L.L out of Irvine CA, The offers are to buy sight unseen, and from what I can tell, they do target land deemed "worthless", or "undesirable" Out of curiousity, I responded. They offered me 25% of the retail value. I passed.
BTW, many of the "worthless" lots in our area are now being built on. Time, sprawl and engineeering can overcome a lot of issues!
Michael, What is the name of the company which sent out the letter to your client's with the land? I do land sales also and have never gotten wind of this? Maybe they think all land can grow corn and they are cashing in on the ethanol craze!! Nigerian cashier's checks with money back is something to watch out for!!
I agree with Christoper, everytime I list a piece of land the sellers get a form letter from a company wanting to make an offer sight unseen. When I contact them they never respond.
There are some groups that send out blanket offers to many parcels throughout the country. Be vary wary of them and be very cautious about what you provide them in the way of personal information. Many of them are con-artists looking to gather personal information about you in order to defraud you in some way. It may also be legit so, contact them and ask for detailed information. Research whoever they are...or claim to be before proceeding in any way. Let us know what you find out. If it seems to be fraudulent, your information can be used to protect others.
First find out who is making the offers. Developers? Mining companies or land trusts? All suggest value in the land.
Why do you feel they are worthless? Is there any development going on around them?
Have you spoke with a local Realtor about value and what is going on with the market in Elko? By the way how much did you purchase these for?
Didn’t find what you were looking for? Ask a question!
