Carolyn,
A realtor can provide you with the most recent comps for the area.

If you are not working with a Realtor now is the time; he/she will be able to show you comps; keep in mind no one knows where the market is heading, therefore, if you're looking to buy, it's a great time--interest rates are still low and don't forget about the tax credit for first time buyers if applicable to you.

Hi Carolyn,
Just like everywhere else the home prices vary. You have to take into consideration new or used homes, schools what shape, etc. I have lived in Highland MIlls for 40 years and I find it to be a great place to live. My kids love it here. You have the towns 2 swimming and recreational facilities that are for town residents only, which include swimming, fishing, lifeguards, basketball, summer daycamp and the lsit goes on. So for the money you spend you have a lot incentives offered from and through the town. If you need to view houses or get an idea of the area please feel free to visit http://www.buyhudsonvalley.com and if you require further assistance help is only a phone call away.

Hi! Great question. There are many variables that go into estimating values in a particular area. The area that you are inquiring about, Highland Mills, has an above average value ratio compared with surrounding areas. Even here in Highland Mills, there are areas that have mixed values due to the same conditions that would affect other locations (i.e.-school district, age of construction, local amenities, commercial/industrial areas, etc). There are 2 ways to get a better understanding of area values: first is to do what you're doing-research! You can never have too much information when it comes to real estate! Second, stop in and visit a realtor that works in that area. We're all extremely friendly and willing to help you in any way. We can show you comparable sales in a given area, take you on a tour of that area and show you the most recent numbers in this area regarding sales, current listings, and tax information.
This is a great area to live in and I hope you choose to stay here! Have a great day!

I am sure if you contact any Realtor member of that local board, they would be happy to put you on an automated prospect match that will keep you apprised through email links of homes on the market that meet your needs. There is no cost for this service.
