Electricians usually work on an hourly basis rather than a square footage basis largely because there are so many variables about the type and extent of wiring you are expecting. The stage of pre-construction or existing construction will be another variable that will affect the pricing. In our area, electricians usually charge between $65 and $75 an hour.

Another approach is to write down a detailed list of exactly what you want done, and then call a couple of electricians for quotes for this work. Either way, ask for recommendations and references to hire a reputable electrician who will be honest and professional. The Better Business Bureau may be able to help you also.
