The traffic in the peak hours are okay as majority will commute by train to NYC and further in NJ i.e., PATH. Again there are two kind of bus transportation to NYC and interior NJ i.e., NJ Transit and private mini buses.
Outside of the immediate Hudson County towns (Hoboken, Jersy City) South Orange is undergoing a major downtown redevelopment. There's a new Performing Arts Center, Eden Gourmet Market and several new condo projects - some already completed and others under construction. The commute to Manhattan is 26 minute via Midtown direct train. Great community! Fabulous architecture! if you'd like further info please contact me.

Go to www.njtransit.com for complete bus schedule info. There are also private shuttle buses in JC Heights that take you to the path at Journal Square for $1 (they call them the dollar vans). They run on Summit & Bergenline. Some may even go into the city. If you are near Grove Street or Journal Square you could just take the PATH.
