Hope all is well. I am pretty sure the answers recieved so far did not address your question. When there is only a Contact Agent button without showing the Listing Agent you would be contacting an Agent that is paying for advertising on Trulia.
If the Listing Agent is a member of Trulia you will see a button that says Listing Agent whether or not she is paying for advertising because the property is her listing. In this scenario you will have a choice to select either the Listing Agent or one of the other Agents in the list. Those other Agents listed are considered Selling Agents. Sometimes the listing is an Exclusive which means you would have to work directly with the Listing Broker for that property.
Anyone with Trulia, please advise if this is not correct.

Usually the agent who posts the listing on Trulia is the seller's agent. That means that the agent's fiduciary responsibility is to protect the seller's best interests, not yours. The agent will still be honest with you and try to help you make a deal, but ultimately they work for the seller.
Most of the time in real estate transactions in Brooklyn, the buyer is not represented by an agent even though they have an agent help them. Even the agent that helps the buyer actually works for the seller the majority of the time. It can be argued that the buyer does not need an agent to represent them because they will be having an attorney represent them once they have an accepted offer and at that point the purchaser's attorney is there to protect them from a legal standpoint.
The thing is that many agents also are concerned with their OWN best interests which means making a deal and making a commission. Based on that, in most cases the agents try real hard to help the buyer make a deal regardless of who they represent!
If for some reason you feel as though you want an agent to represent you, you have to think about if a) are you willing to pay the agent a fee as a buyer or do you want your agent to collect a commission from the seller? and b) do you want to limit yourself to work with only one agent?
