I live in 77493, Old town Katy, and have lived here since 1983. Love it here. We've had a couple of things stolen out of cars parked in the driveway over the years, but nothing major on my street. There is a crime everywhere ya know and everyone has their own defintion of "safe"! I see some have suggested websites to check crime stats - and you can actually go into the Katy Police Station on Franz, just a couple of blocks east of Katyland and talked to officers there. Very nice and friendly people who will be happy to help.

Good luck - call if I can help.

Claudine,

77493 covers most of Old Town Katy and North into a largely rural area. As to is it a safe area, call the Katy Police Department and check it out. As has been said Realtors are not allowed to answer such questions as to the safty, that liability thing that we all have to worry about, if we say it's safe and something happens you can come back on us, if we say it's not safe well that can be considered steering and that is against the Law so our hands are tied when it comes to questions like that.

I can say that Old Town Katy is like stepping back in time and I love it there, I owned and operated a shop for 5 years right in the heart of town and it was an amazing place to work, time moves much slower and people used to come into my place and sit and talk for hours, where can you find that today?

I suggest you take a trip to down town and check out the stores and cafes see for yourself, I would be surprised if you didn't enjoy the experience, it's not very big and it sure aint fancy but it feels good to walk the sidewalk and maybe sit and have a snowcone under the big shade tree.

Let me know what you think

Katy is fabulous! Like anywhere these days, you have to use good common sense but most neighborhoods are packed with families and kids playing outdoors, jogging and riding bikes. Also, the police have a strong presence driving the streets. When people are outside, you tend to get to know your neighbors. That makes me feel better about my neighborhood. I don't know if it's actually safer than other places but it sure feels like it!

Can you be more specific on what area and neighborhood. As a realtor we can give you statistics and demographic information but the best thing I can suggest is to talk to the neighbors as they can be more opinionated than us in this area.

If you would like help locating an area that meets certain criteria than I would be more than happy to help, feel free to call or email if I can be of any assistance.
