Aside from Westerly being a beautiful Rhode Island town that has much to offer year round, if you are looking to commute to and from NY on a frequent basis, the drive is only around 2 hours- and if you are looking to get to boston-- It is just about the same. It's a nice hub for someone looking to plant their feet in the Ocean State but still venture to and from larger city communities on a regular basis!

Westerly is a great place to bring children up and its a great place to go kayaking, camping, bike riding, great beach fun and it is still close enough to visit NY and Boston. Live here 28 years and love it so much. The taxes are low. Did I mention the beaches are beautiful.

Westerly is a great place to be year round. The downtown has wonderful stores, a superb library, a famous Victorian strolling park, a theater, great restaurants and more. For years they've had a "First Night" celebration, then the magic of A 12th Night Celebration, in the spring the park has a garden market sale, Summer Pops with the Chorus of Westerly, Virtu Art festival, and often a couple weeks of Shakespeare in the Park.

Of course Westerly boasts the best beaches on the East Coast, as well as
Watch Hill with mansions to oggle at and the oldest flying carrousel in the country for the wee ones to try and catch the brass ring!

Nearby is the famous Mystic Seaport where one can revel in maritime history, the wonderful Mystic Aquarium and unique shopping in the village and downtown. Nearby are two casinos. New London has it's own symphony orchestra and touring dance companies and operas.

What does Westerly have to offer? EVERYTHING!

Westerly is a wonderful, seaside town with the typical downtown area with shops, restaurants and businesses. Within the town there are distinct "neighborhoods" like Watch Hill, Avondale, Haversham, Winnipaug and Weekapaug (made famous on the show Family Guy). The beaches here are superb, none better anywhere!

The biggest advantage of living in any part of Rhode Island is you are never far from anything! Of course, we joke that locals pack a suitcase when crossing the bridges from one side of Narragansett Bay to the other (just in case).

From Westerly, you can travel to Providence or Newport in less than an hour. Boston in less than two. It is a great place to have a summer home and an even better place to live.

We have some of the best restaurants anywhere...quaint winners of the James Beard award such as Aunt Carrie's in Narragansett, the best Italian restaurants in Providence and legendary restaurants Westerly such as the Olympia Tea Room which is a Watch Hill Institution.

Westerly is quite busy in the summer months. There a many fabulous summer rentals on the market right now. Many enjoy visiting the beaches in September after the crowds are gone.

I remember asking people this before moving here in 1988. Depending upon your particular reasons for wanting this information whether you wish to become a seasonal or yearly resident or if you are inquiring for business purposes I can easily answer. We are a resort community and a fabulous year round community as well. During the summer season most of us are busy doing what we can to make those seasonal and weekly visitors welcome and comfortable. We thank them for their support and our income. If you are a business person in any type of service business, hospitality business or other simular business this is the best place you could possibly live. If you are interested in relaxing by the shore during the summer and enjoying fine dining, great entertainment or just walking through the many shops you will find all this and so much more. Yearly life in Westerly is such a great mix. We work hard in the spring and summer, catch our breath in the fall and enjoy all that Westerly has to offer in the Winter before beginning again. It is this continued changing that keeps things exciting. I hope I have given you a look into what it is like and hope you will join us soon. Thanks for the great question. Westerly is located on the RI coast right between New York City and Boston, MA. 20 minutes off of I-95. One of the lowest personal property tax rates in RI, (3rd lowest) Schools have just completed a full renovation, including a new Middle School. A responsible town government means we are one of few towns in RI that is not in trouble financially. One of the best police departments in RI as is deminstrated by very low crime rate. Loads to do.....great library, Arts and theatre community, beaches, public tenis courts, Wel run YMCA. Close to all area attractions, Mystic Seaport, Foxwood's Casino, Mohegan Sun Casino, Mystic Aquarium, Newport, RI and a short flight over to Block Island. Please come to Westerly for a weekend, you'll fall in love. I can arrange a room at a beach front hotel for you....

Westerly, Rhode Island is a unique community with a historic downtown, a riverfront, and multiple breathtakingly beautiful beaches - both private and public. We are a tristate area with RI, CT, and NY converging with Watch Hill, RI, Fishers Island, NY, and Stonington, CT.

This community would appeal to the water/beach oriented, the artist, the individual who likes to getaway but be accessible, and more.

About now, June 1 - our beach areas are coming to life, stores are opening, summer visitors are returning. Come visit the 02891: Watch Hill, Weekapaug, Misquamicut, and Westerly sometime!

Westerly is a wonderful town of ~25,000 people and has everything a small town requires to be great.
Park (Wilcox Park), YMCA, Train Station, Ocean Beaches, Boating, Downtown district, Low taxes (2 nd lowest in the State of RI) and a variety of housing. As a local resident of Westerly for over 41 years and active in real estate for 22 years I know the market intimately and would be happy to answer any of your questions and help you out in any way i can.
