I have lived in that area for over 32 years...I cant think of 1 time where I've heard any major news coming out of H.Hills. Its all upper class people. Here is some demographics for you:

Hollywood Hills
Median Household Income: $71,717
Single Males: 27.7%
Single Females: 15.2%
Median Age: 41
Homes With Kids: 14.8%
Average Household Size: 1.862
Average Commute Time (Minutes): 29.622

Hope this helps. If you're looking to buy or if you have more questions, please feel free and contact me through my profile page.

Your best source of information regarding safety is the local police department--why not call or visit, ask all your questions, and you'll be happy to hear all the data firsthand. If you are not familiar with the area, take the time and visit, drive around the neighborhood more than once and at different times of day to see is your comfort level can be reached, then determine if you get a sense of belonging--then take it from there--real eatate professionals are prohibited by law of enticing a buyer to pyrchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods.

Chris;
Tony's answer is quite harsh. First, he is not a Realtor, and as such, cannot be expected to know the marketplace like we do. Second, there are eccentric people everywhere, in every city. Hollywood Hills is by no means a ghetto for the eccentric! I would love to have a dialogue with you about what you mean in terms of safety. There are other parts of Los Angeles, even close by, that have higher crime statistics that HH. Want to chat? I've been a Realtor, selling homes here on the Westside of Los Angeles for 33 years, and I'll be very candid with you.

Eccentric and dangerous for small children.

That's my opinion after 20 some years working around the area.

Hollywood Hills community life is as varied as its topography. There are, of course, celebrities, and there are singles, families, and elders. There are young children, but since a lot of Hollywood Hills is windy roads with no sidewalks, it's not highly walkable, and not really great for street play or bike riding, or strollers. In terms of livability and safety, you should consult the crime statistics to show you what types and amounts of crime the area has.
If you need help with that, let me know.

Chris,

That's a real tough question.

What you consider "safe" may be different from what another person's point of view is.

There are many real nice homes and areas around Hollywood Hills.

LA is a hustle & bustle type of city. If you don't mind that, then it would be a nice move for you. Alot warmer than MA anyway.

Best wishes!
