Being the Gateway to the San Juan Moutains, Ridgway offers the most amazing and diverse outdoor activities, which makes the lifestyle here so fun and exhilerating. Offroading the hundreds of miles of Jeep roads over some of the highest and hair-raising peaks is a huge favorite activity, with several companies in nearby Ouray or Telluride that will rent Jeeps or give guided tours. Other great summer and fall activities include hiking, mountain and road biking, fishing, golfing, mountain climbing, horseback riding, river rafting, kayaking, hunting, soaking in the hot springs, camping, bird and wildlife watchng, photographng the spectacular scenery, hot air ballooning, and boating on several nearby lakes. The fun and choices for outdoor activity continues into winter, with alpine skiing in nearby Telluride, Durango, Monarch, and Powderhorn on the Grand Mesa, ice fishing at the Blue Mesa Reservoir, cross country skiing or snow shoeing around the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Telluride, Ironton, and countless other groomed trails and off-piste, ice skating, ice hockey and even broom hockey, watchng and taking photos of the bald eagles, and even better in winter--soaking in the hot springs or siding up to a table near a roaring fire in one of our many local brew pubs or fine eateries. Okay, so that's not really an outdoor activity, but it's also part of what makes living in and around Ridgway. I love living here!

I'm assuming by the zip code 81432 you refer to, you're asking about Ridgway CO? This is a cute little town in SW Colorado. It's very near Ouray (another cute old mining town) and also the ski town of Telluride. It's a beautiful part of Colorado, yet a bit on the remote side. The largest towns nearby are Grand Junction, CO (a few hours north) and Durango & Cortez to the south. Real estate in these areas is pretty pricey. Are you thinking of relocating there? Let me know if I can refer you to an agent who specializes in that area.

Ridgway marks the northern entrance of the scenic San Juan Skyway, a crossroad for commerce, transportation, history and scenery. The Skyway, one of the All-American Roads in the U.S., winds through unmatched scenery — a photographer’s dream.

Located in the picturesque Uncompahgre Valley and surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks of the Cimarron and San Juan Mountains, Ridgway is the “Gateway to the San Juans.”

This “gateway” position was recognized over 100 years ago when the Rio Grande Southern established Ridgway as a railhead center servicing the nearby mining towns of Ouray and Telluride. The town was named for railroad superintendent Robert M. Ridgway who established the town in 1891.

Relax and picnic under the shade of 100-year-old cottonwoods in Ridgway Town Park, one of the prettiest anywhere. Ridgway’s park and surroundings were locations for the movies “True Grit”, and “How the West Was Won”.

For a getaway with all the conveniences of today, but with the slower pace and charm of the Old West, experience…Ridgway! http://ridgwaycolorado.com/
