I live in Arcata, CA. Area code 95521. I am interesting in renting some commercial shop space and the owner is wanting me to pay seventy-five cents per square foot... that seems high to me for this area.

The rental rates are anywhere from fifty cents to over a dollar per square foot. It really comes down to location. If it is in a high traffice location it is probably going to cost a little more. If you figure that pros and cons of the traffic it will warrant the price. If you pay seventy five cents more a square foot but are able to bring in more clients it is probably worth it.

75c sounds about right. If it's too high you can check Manila, Blue Lake and Samoa. They are sometimes a bit less expensive. Good luck.

In Trussville Alabama it's $15per (1.25month) square foot per year for Office space

So in CA doesn't seem like much but to get the best idea I would call a local REALTOR and ask them to send you some of their listing or leases and compare that way.

Also you may check with a local commercial appraiser they will really up to date with the going rates
