As a licensced Realtor, we cannot comment on which area is safe. We do however encourage you to check out websites such as or the Metropolitan Police Department's Crime Map Search at There's a lot of great information for you there and should answer any questions you might have. Best of luck to you!

Love hill east. Lived on 15th and E. It's a street that has been transformed over the years. New residents. Young childless couples. Renovated homes. Ugly metal fences taken down. There are some homes that haven't been renovated yet, but the residents are mostly nice and have multiple generations of family living in the home with wonderful history to share of the neighborhood. Of course you may experience some of the not so good too, like people dropping trash, food, along the street and school areas and never picking it up, even though a trash can is 15ft away. Sometimes there are domestic disputes that happen in the streets. Car break-ins for GPS or other technology. We just call the police, every time. And depending on how entrenched you become in the neighborhood you may find some residents are always asking to help you around the yard or whatever for money... Some people don't realize that keeping up their yard and the street in front of them is their responsibility so that can lead to some messy yards/sidewalks. There are good things and bad. If you want a yard, quieter neighborhood more suburban feel and access to the anacostia river trail for physical activity, it comes with all that I mentioned above. And we love it.

As a former resident, I can say this neighborhood is as safe as any in any city. Walk the sidewalks here and see joggers, young couples with infants, toddlers, pre-kindergarden, and elementary school age. A half-block from a Safeway, two blocks from a Metro, three blocks from a Harris Teeter, two blocks from a CVS, and three blocks from Frager's Hardware (the best!). Walk to 7th & 8th Street SE for an array of restaurants, shops, and Eastern Market. Good foot traffic. And the neighborhood is as friendly and outgoing as you are.

we cannot discuss safe "areas" because of Fair Housing...however every Thursday in the Post home section you can get crime reports for the previous week...purchase Post in the area for which you are interested

The only way to answer that is pop into your local police station, see what the statistics are.

You can also walk the neighborhood in the evening and at night to get a feel for it and talk to neighbors and merchants to get a feel for the area.

Good morning Marciella. Happy Friday to you. No real estate agents is allowed to tell you whether an area is safe to live in? Since real estate agents have to adhere to strict codes of ethics from the National Association of Realtors which is based on professionalism and protection of the public. I would highly recommend that you get a police report from the police station. Or you can also check out the site Much success to you.

Hi Marciella

As a realtor we cannot tell you about any neighborhood safety, etc. I would recommend looking at the police departments website or giving them a call and asking about the neighborhood.

Good luck!
