There safety is a subjective term. We recommend doing some research online and also visiting the neighborhood during the day and at night to get a feel for the neighborhood. You can also try doing this on weekend nights to see what the "night life" foot traffic is like. If you need a good easy to use site that shows you all types of demographics, such as gender break down, etc and also shows you neighborhood amenities such as shopping centers you can visit http://www.dreamtown.com and click on the "neighborhood" tab.
Questions involving issues of neighborhood safety are normally best referred to the local police or county sheriff's departments. They have access to the most accurate and current information and are usually very willing to be helpful.
By law this is not a question that an agent can answer. I recommend that you spend some time driving and walking around the area at different times of day to get an idea if it appears to be an area that would interest you. You can either check the crime rate online or stop in the police station and speak with the officers there. You can check out schools at this site: http://schoollocator.cps.k12.il.us/viewer.htm
I hope this helps.
