My colleagues are very careful about the Code of Ethics, as am I, but I can share some insights about this neighborhood. What you'll find here is a vibrant shopping area with restaurants all along 5th St, which heads away from Center City to the north - a busy, main street.
On 6th Street, traffic heads in towards Center City, so it is also a busy street, but with more houses than businesses. There are areas that are mixed - homes & vacant land and abandoned buildings.
There is more building taking place here now than there has been in many years. Property close to Temple University has been increasing in value despite the economy.
"1814 N." means that you are 18 blocks north of Center City, putting you at the intersection of 6th & Montgomery Ave. This is five blocks from the center of Temple University's Main Campus and also very close to a main subway stop - very good if you don't have a car.
Good luck to you! Call me when you get here!

Of course the best way to find out about an area is to actually visit that area and look around. Don't be afraid to ask people who live in the area about what they like and don't like. Get in touch with a good agent who specializes in relocations to help you with your move and can provide you with other information such as the transportation system, area hospitals and museums. Philly has a lot to offer its residents.
Best of luck!
