From my office in Normal Heights near 30th and Adams it takes 13 minutes . . . door to sand. The question in San Diego real estate is, usually, "Am I still close enough to the ocean"? In the case of Normal Heights, I believe you are.

Normal Heights is the name of one of about 22 City recognized "Community Plan Areas". It's Western border is the 805 freeway. 30th St. & Adams Ave. lies within the North Park Community Plan Area, ie., "North Park".

All the answers below are pretty accurate. One thing I will caution you on, however, is parking which can be quite challenging during the Spring, Summer and various Holiday seasons. If you surf your options are limited even further. You may want to consider North County beaches i.e. Solona, Cardiff, Encinitas, etc which you can drive to in about 20 minutes and most parking is free..

Ten minutes, plan on 20-30 including parking.

Nicholas
I live in Kensington, just east of Normal Heights, and it only takes me 15 to 20 minutes to get to most beaches. Hop on the 15 north to 8 west and you make your choices from there.
One of the things I like most of Normal Heights and Kensington is our central location. yo can be in most of the county within 30 minutes. We also have great restaurants and a very active community.

I am never too busy for your referrals

Hi Nicholas,

It depends on which beach in San Diego. On average around 9 to 15 miles from Normal Heights.

Normal heights is roughly 20 minutes tops from beaches. You could drive from normal heights to La Jolla shores in less than 20 min, even during rush hour traffic. Pacific beach is just a little farther, but Mission beach is also within about 20 minutes as well. If you need further assistance, feel free to contact me.
