Tishayl,

Another suggestion and an observation.

Suggestion: Check out the MARTA Crime Stats on their website.

Observation: I recently showed property in the are to a family with two daughters who attend Georgia State. We walked the streets and spoke to folks who we met, spoke to a police woman and also to the MARTA Police in both Edgewood and a couple of other stations. Very instructive experience.

Good Luck,

Gary

PS It is very easy to get to Georgia State, just get on Dekalb Avenue (just north of the Edgewood Shopping Center) and drive right into the heart of the campus, 5 minutes away.

I agree with David B.'s advise to visit the Atlanta Police Department's website, but be sure to compare the statistics you find there with those for similar neighborhoods you are familiar with so you have some perspective.

I also suggest that you spend some time walking around the neighborhood at different times of day to get a feel for who is out at various times of day. You may be pleasantly surprised to see people out walking or jogging at all times of day and night.

Happy house hunting!

Hi Tishayl,

Edgewood is just like any other urban area in Atlanta if you ask me. Like the others have said, you need to be a proactive buyer and check the crime maps, drive through the area, etc. Edgewood is an area where many homes have been revitalized and rehabbed and some haven't. From GA State, you could probably be around Edgewood in 15-20 minutes....depending Atlanta traffic of course. HAHA!

If you need any help at all, please don't hesitate to call, email, text, etc. Good luck!

Tishayl,
The Atlanta Police Department has a great interactive map that shows you crimes and when they occurred.
Here's the link http://www.atlantapd.org/zone6.aspx
It's your best resource.

Check the local precinct for safety stats, Tishayl, or city data (below in web ref) for that and other pertinent info. As far as a commute to GSU, I'd say 12-14 minutes in moderate traffic. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
