Why does Trulia lump Boonton and Boonton Twp. into one town?

Boonton and Boonton Twp. are two distinct towns that share a zip code. They have different boro halls, grade schools and high schools. Boonton Twp. students go to Rockaway Valley School and Mtn. Lakes High School ranked in the top 5 in the state (MLHS). Both are great communities but are very different and unique in their own way. It is deceiving to lump average home sales of these two towns.

Hi Jodie,

As with any technology, there are some caveats that we need to know. For a town like Boonton, not many people know the difference on the internet when looking at towns. As with any town and township that share the same name, a town search engine within a site like Trulia (and even Realtor.com) have to assume how the public will perform searches, so for the maximum amount of homes returned, sometimes the search feature inside the website will compile all related towns into one, especially when they share the same zip code.

You can try to contact the webmaster at Trulia and possibly suggest they make a change to their results when Boonton is being searched, so that at least the results that appear after searching Boonton can clearly identify between Boonton Town and Boonton Township.

A similar issue exists within the Garden State MLS where the public can search West Milford, but within West Milford there are towns like Hewitt, Oak Ridge and Newfoundland that do not appear in the search window. So for that issue, I usually ask my clients to search by Zip Code on Realtor.com and I provide the Zip Codes of the different neighborhoods within West Milford. Same goes for Newark. Many Zip Codes make up the Newark city so I provide all the Zip Codes for Newark and identify each zip code area on a map.

In your case, there even isn't a zip code to tell the difference.

My advice is for you to reach out to Trulia and see if they can modify their system to show both Boonton and Boonton Twp as separate neighborhoods.

Hope that helps. By the way, 17 years also in the technology industry kind of qualifies me to make some of these observations.
