On the other hand, I prefer word of mouth, create great impressions everywhere you go, Supermarket, Laundry, Etc., and ask if they might know someone in the market, that please you need the business! People like to help, when given the opportunity.
Internet advertising is a good way if you can get a budget together of at least $500 per month. Start your website with Wordpress and an IDX plugin (don't pay more than $60 per month), later advertise in places like Trulia, Zillow, Homes, Etc. Make sure can commit for at least 3 months worth of advertising.
Go after expireds. But not just recent ones - dig back three years at least. The market is improving - there's a good chance they'll be able to sell this time around.
Door knock. Most agents in my market say "Oh that wouldn't work in our market" but there are a couple of super succesful agents in our market who do a *lot* of listings and they built their businesses on door knocking.
