Los Feliz is a lovely area in the eastern Hollywood Hills at the base of Griffith Park. Generally, it is an upscale neighborhood while the "village", as described previously, is cool and eclectic. See police crime maps here http://www.lapdcrimemaps.org/ - Have a safe trip if you are planning a visit.

Los Feliz and Silverlake have a lot to offer. Los Feliz is probably the nicer of the two, but also the more expensive. Silverlake has really gone upscale in the last few years, and is probably the best mix of hipness and gentrification.
There's ton's of things to do/ see/ listen to/ watch/ eat in those neighborhoods...that's why they've become so hot. Another good thing about these communities is they're really close to lots of the traditional "ethnic" areas of LA; Koreatown, Chinatown, Little Tokyo and Thai Town are all within a reasonable distance, with some of the best Asian food in LA.
There are always moms strolling their babies around the lake in the morning with their dogs or people running around the lake all the way to late evening. There are a ton of cute little boutiques around here with a wide range of vintage clothing stores. What I like most about Los Feliz/ Silverlake is its accessibility to numerous freeways. It seems to be in the center of everything (i.e. the Valley, San Gabriel , Santa Monica, Westside, etc.
As for night life...there are tons of local bars (dive bars) in the vicinity, and you are minutes from Hollywood. If you want clubs and larger bars, you can always head to Sunset Strip. I was born and raised in Southern California and have seen this area develop from nothing to what it is now: a thriving community. It's perfect for families and singles alike.

If you are concerned about safety--your best source of information is the local police department, why not visit/call and ask all your questions; they'll gladly help and you will have heard all there is to hear firsthand.

My office is located in Los Feliz and it's one of the best neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It is a real community, and there is a vibrant shopping district in the Los Feliz Village, along Vermont Avenue, Hillhurst Avenue, and Hollywood Blvd. The homes in the hills above Los Feliz Blvd. have amazing views of downtown and the rest of the city.
There will be a neighborhood fair in the Village at the end of this month, on July 31st. From 2-9pm shuttles will be running between the various businesses along Vermont, Hollywood, and Hillhurst. Our office at 1660 Hillhurst will be having a dog adoption, face painting, and art show. Please feel free to stop by.
If I can be of any further help, please feel free to contact me.

Los Feliz is a wonderful and highly sought after part of LA to reside in. The area is known mostly for being tucked underneath Griffith Park, the largest park in LA, which is a lush and beautiful oasis in the middle of the big city.

In addition to Griffith Park, the downtown area known as Los Feliz Village is between Los Feliz Blvd and Franklin Ave on Vermont and Hillhurst Ave. There are a myriad of cool shops, great restaurants and infamous bars to keep you very busy! there is also a nearby farmers market once a week and everything you need, including freeways is close by.

I highly recommend it as one of the best places to live in LA.
