There's ton's of things to do/ see/ listen to/ watch/ eat in those neighborhoods...that's why they've become so hot. Another good thing about these communities is they're really close to lots of the traditional "ethnic" areas of LA; Koreatown, Chinatown, Little Tokyo and Thai Town are all within a reasonable distance, with some of the best Asian food in LA.
There are always moms strolling their babies around the lake in the morning with their dogs or people running around the lake all the way to late evening. There are a ton of cute little boutiques around here with a wide range of vintage clothing stores. What I like most about Los Feliz/ Silverlake is its accessibility to numerous freeways. It seems to be in the center of everything (i.e. the Valley, San Gabriel , Santa Monica, Westside, etc.
As for night life...there are tons of local bars (dive bars) in the vicinity, and you are minutes from Hollywood. If you want clubs and larger bars, you can always head to Sunset Strip. I was born and raised in Southern California and have seen this area develop from nothing to what it is now: a thriving community. It's perfect for families and singles alike.

There will be a neighborhood fair in the Village at the end of this month, on July 31st. From 2-9pm shuttles will be running between the various businesses along Vermont, Hollywood, and Hillhurst. Our office at 1660 Hillhurst will be having a dog adoption, face painting, and art show. Please feel free to stop by.

In addition to Griffith Park, the downtown area known as Los Feliz Village is between Los Feliz Blvd and Franklin Ave on Vermont and Hillhurst Ave. There are a myriad of cool shops, great restaurants and infamous bars to keep you very busy! there is also a nearby farmers market once a week and everything you need, including freeways is close by.
I highly recommend it as one of the best places to live in LA.
