More homes proposed to be built on Beekman Country Club?

Asked by Cscha, 12533 Mon Sep 8, 2008

I was at a party over the weekend when it was casually mentioned that Beekman Country Club (The Legends) was looking to build 96 more homes on the Highland course (the one closest to Country Club Road and the club house). This would make it an 18 hole course as opposed to 27. We recently purchased in the neighborhood and were startled, we thought we had done all the necessary research about the neighborhood and never heard a peep about this. Has anyone else heard this rumor? Am I correct to assume that this plan is dead in the water with the way the real estate market is going? If you've heard this, any word on the type of homes? A timeline as to when this would happen? Any info, whether based on fact or just hearsay :) would be greatly appreciated!

HI Cscha,

There were plans presented in front of the town but apparently it was denied. There were plans to begin development and construct luxury town homes on a portion of the golf course. It would be the portion as you mentioned that backs up to the western side of Spy Glass Hill. At this time there are no such plans on the table but yet again it can always be revisited in the future. i highly doubt any such project would begin given the market conditions in the near future.

Go to the town of East Fishkill website and click on the planning board. All items that have recently been voted on or discussed can be found there. You can go to any public meeting that the planning board or town board has. When the meeting is open to the public for items not on the agenda, you can ask any question you want. Any time something is asked at a public meeting, it goes into the minutes and thus, into the files. Again, check the website. Also, if you find out that this has any credence to it and is not just a rumor, you can always start a petition and submit it to the town. Just remember that in real estate, as with anything else in life, never say never. Good luck and I hope things work out the way you want them to.

This is a good reason as to why you need to check with the town before purchasing a property if you are concerned about future development. The Building Department is the best source of information. Anyone else is just hearsay and the information can not be relied upon.

As Nancy stated, even if it is dead right now, it can always be revisited. You, or a neighbor immediately boardering the property, would always be told of any zoning changes or issues that are coming in front of the town. However, if they already have full approval and there are no zoning changes necessary, they might just do a public comment session.

I'd suggest you speak to the people bordering this location and ask to be kept posted. Otherwise, you can just inquire at the town every once in a while.

In answer to your question, yes there had been plans to build in that location. Some talk about possible town homes also. It could always be revisited in the future but in checking I have been told there is no discussion at the present time.
