HOA have a lot of power. I know that I have worked with several different associations that had similar rules. Some did not allow any kind of signs. Some allowed signs in the window but not on the outside. Some allowed almost anything. However, as has already been stated, this really is a legal issue that needs a legal professional to answer. In addition, you need to be aware of conforming with state and federal laws as well.

I would caution you that our local city, county, and state laws may or may not prohibit this action, even if your covenants allow it, so be certain before you choose to act upon this. that is truely a question for your hoa's attorney to get a 100% correct answer. There is a law that allows for sale signs of a certain size however i do not know of any that madates you to allow for rent signs. Good luck with working it out and please let me know what you find out.
