Help the community by answering this question:

If you want an answer about the crime rate in any Chicago area go to the Chicago Police web site
It's called Clear Map you can use "Crime Incidents" to search for specific incidents by address, community, ward, beat, district, school & park.
Use "Crime Summary" to see crime summarized by community, ward, beat, district and census tract.

It all depends where in albany park you are, if you stay east of kedzie and south of lawrence it's perfectly fine, but once you start going further west than kimbal and north or on lawrence then it gets a bit dicy, but it's really all about your block and what that's like, I've lived here 5 years I've never had a problem, as a female walking to work and coming home late on the train.

Since real estate professionals are prohibited from steering, enticing a buyer to purchase, or not, in specific neighborhoods, consider doing research beforehand--for any safety concerns, your best source of information is the local police department, why not visit/call and ask all your questions, hear all firsthand--also take to time to visit the area, more than once and at different times of day, possibly chat with locals/neighbors, drive around and look at anything important to you, etc., then make a determination, will your comfort level be reached.

What is safe to you, may not be safe to someone else...... When you decided to rent there, why did you not do your research at that time..... there is so much information on the internet, drive through the neighborhood at all kinds of days and times and you will be able to find out for yourself..... And safety, visit the local police department and they WILL give you the information you are seeking....

Good Luck to you!

Safe is very subjective. One person might feel comfortable and another not. The best thing you can do to determine your comfort level is go there at various times of day. Talk to your potential neighbors and see how they feel about it.

There are a variety of sources where you can obtain free and objective information on areas.

This website provides demographics by zip code:

And below is a link where you can look up what kinds of reports being made to police and the street where it happened.
