What are my responsibilities as a new homeowner?
I never owned a home before....Can you please help!
Luis - congratulations on purchasing your first home. How exciting this must be for you! With the excitement I'm sure comes of the anxiety of paying the bills and the responsibility of keeping the property up (it's sort of like have a child). It's exciting at the same time scary. Your responsibilities include paying your mortgage on time, your taxes and home owner's insurance. You are responsible for maintaining the property, caring for the lawn, painting, etc. (unless you are part of a home owner's association that takes care of this sort of thing for you). With that responsibility you also get the opportunity to do whatever you want to the property - paint your walls whatever color you want to without having to ask the landlord's permission, change facets, cabinets, floor coverings - whatever you want to do to make it a comfortable home for you. As others have said - enjoy it - responsibly.
Luis:
As a Real Estate Pro, you know you will probably move again in 3-5- years. So, follow the advice you give your sellers. Yes, decorate your home the way you like. After all, it's yours. But, as you do, keep your decorating fairly neutral: so, when you are ready to sell, you won't have a ton of work to do. Also, don't over improve your home for your location, unless you are willing to sell for a lot less than you put into your home.
But, most importantly, ENJOY YOUR NEW HOME!!!! You are now living the "American Dream." And, congratuations on buying your first home in a very difficult economy, when many buyers cannot meet mortgage underwriting guidlines!

Luis, could you be more specific with your question? Are you asking about a homeowners association or just homeownership in general?
