I am looking for a place that's woodsy, has good schools, under an hour from Sacramento, and gets decent snow, but not too much for horses (under 3

feet). I prefer not to live within an HOA, but a laid-back animal-friendly one would be OK, I guess.

I've searched the Greeley Hill /Mariposa /Coarsegold /Oakhurst area (this is about 4 hours north of my current area), but only found one possibility and realized that the local middle and high schools have very low API's so I'm still hunting.

Then I figured I'd look farther north (just a gut feeling :-) and searched the Pollock Pines and surrounding areas. I think this may be my spot. I have a rescue horse, several cats, a 10 year old, and a big dog so I'm just trying to find a place we'll all like and be happy.

Any suggestions? I'm particularly looking for a place to keep this horse (and other rescues in the future) on my own property (probably no more than 4 though).

Thanks everyone :-)

Hi Christina,

I live on the border of Shingle Springs and El Dorado Hills in a small area known as Latrobe. In my neighborhood the sites are 10 acres or more. We are 10 - 15 mins from Highway 50 but located in an animal friendly neighborhood with no HOA fees. One of my neighbors does rescue farm animals and others have a large variety of animals. Horses are quite popular. The school district, Latrobe, is the best of both worlds - a small country school with small class sizes with all the current, up-to-date facilities and great teachers. I chose this area for convenience to all the market amenities and at the same time country living! We get a little snow but not much but we are 15 minutes from Placerville which does get snow!

Good Luck!

Hello Christina,
Have you looked into Glenshire? It is in the town of Truckee. It does not get nearly as much snow as other places in Truckee and is about 2 hours from Sacramento. 25 min from Reno and is zoned for horses. Another option would be acreage property near Applegate, Dutch Flat, Auburn area. Let me know if you'd like more information with regards to this area.
