I am considering moving from Northern Virginia to Montgomery County, but am totally unfamiliar with the area. I have two teen daughters. Is Silver?

How do the daughters feel about leaving their friends and moving? You may wish to explore options with them.

Good day Naomi,

Hope all is well.

I am currently working with a family that lives in Dumfries. They are considering a move to Maryland as well (Howard county, to be specific). They work in DC and have opted to find different options... looking to take the commuter bus into DC.
Try using City Data to get some instant results. You can always check out Howard & Frederick counties which are just past Montgomery.

Also, here are links for county schools:

Hope this information helps. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you and assisting you with your home search.
Take Care!

Kind regards,

Hi Naomi,

Silver Spring is a big area with a variety of housing options. Assuming you want to buy, here's a place to start to understand home prices in the area - http://bit.ly/4Bl9no

Since the area is so large, I would first determine your price range, type of home and location from work. With this information, you can narrow specific areas that meet your overall goals. From there, I would visit neighborhoods that are the best fit and then check with the County to get crime statistics.

Still - this is a tough (impossible?) question to answer. The best first step is to understand "why" you are considering a move -- schools? better commute? better home? The answer to this question would guide your next step.

Good luck.

Hi Naomi,

Welcome in advance! Your question unfortunately cannot be answered in accordance with possible fair housing violations. Realtors are not permitted to comment on which areas are "safe" or "nice." We are not trying to be difficult, but we don't want to risk losing our licenses. My best advice is to contac the local police department to get the statistics you need. You can also contact the board of Education for school info. With this said, Silver Spring is an extremely popular area because of its location to D.C. and surrounding areas. If I can help with your home search at all, please contact me. Best of luck to you!
