Southwest Florida pet friendly parks and beaches

Are you looking for a place to enjoy the outdoors and take your pet with you? Southwest Florida provides recreational opportunities for dog owners and their pets. Here are some options.

Pet Parks
Hounds on Henry Street is a dog park located at Henry and Shreve Streets in Punta Gorda, FL. The park has a fenced area for large dogs as well as a small dog and puppy fenced area. There are water spigots, benches, picnic tables, trash cans, and disposal bags available. They do not have public restrooms. The surface type is grass with cement paths. Dog owners are responsible for their dogs at all times.

Paw Park is located at 24410 Bayshore Rd in Port Charlotte, FL. This park has a fenced area where your pet can play off the leash. There is a separate small dog area, water hoses, water bowls, and disposal bags. There are restrooms and a playground nearby.

Edgewater Paw Park is located at 22410 Glass Lane in Port Charlotte, FL. This park does allow dogs and has over one acre of fenced-in land where your dog can roam. They have a picnic area with picnic tables, a playground, restrooms, trash cans, and bag stations. Dog owners must be in the fenced area with their pet at all times and must have their leash in their hand.

Judd Park, or sometimes called Pooch Park, is located at 1297 Driftwood, North Fort Myers, FL. This 14 acre facility offers a lighted softball field with clay infield. Other amenities include four tennis courts, 2 pavilions, playground, canoe/kayak launching, dog park and restroom facilities. The dog area is gated and fenced in and has potable water for dogs and owners and several signs indicated which areas are for large and small dogs. Dog lovers are encouraged to use the facility and to please pick up after their dogs.

K-9 Corral at Estero Park is located at 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd, Estero, FL. You can bring your dog to the park to exercise and socialize with other dogs. The fenced area is open during normal park hours. Small and timid dogs have a designated area while larger dogs have a separate area for themselves. This two-acre canine wonderland is surrounded by large trees that offer much shade for you and your pup. Disposal stations and water locations are provided.

Barkingham Park is located at 9800 Buckingham Rd, Fort Myers, FL. The park has two fenced in areas for dogs to play. There is a small agility area. There is also a smaller fenced area for shy and small dogs and puppies. They have dog water fountains, a cool off dog shower, dog waste disposal stations, and park benches. They also have many trails to walk such as the mitigation lake and primate back trails through pine and palmetto habitats. Dog owners are required to have proof of vaccinations, dog licenses, and keep their pet under control at all times.

Dog Beaches
Dog Beach is located at the south end of Lovers Key just west of New Pass Bridge and north of Bonita Beach, 8800 Estero Blvd, Fort Myers, FL. There are no restrooms or running water. Parking is free. This is an off-leash beach area that can be used for dogs. Owners must clean up after their dog, prevent them from harassing wildlife and shorebirds, and control their dogs at all times.

South Brohard Beach and Paw Park is located at 1600 Harbor Dr. S., Venice, FL. This park is for dog lovers. It has a fenced dog play yard, doggie drinking fountains, showers on decks for dogs only, fire hydrants and leash posts. The park is also adjacent to the only beach in Sarasota County that allows dogs to roam free. Dog lovers have declared this park and beach to be the best doggie park in the state.
