Mattisonteeter,

There a couple of sites you can search schools, their scores and phone of the scool to talk to the principal.

http://notebook.lausd.net/portal/page?_pageid=33,47493&_…

http://search.lausd.k12.ca.us/cgi-bin/fccgi.exe?w3exec=schfinder

I encourage you to look at all the scores and contact the school directly and talk to the principal so you are comfortable with what the high school offers the students.

Sincerely,

You need to be here in person and go look at them yourself. Public schools in L.A. are a little rough and your child will be exposed to alot. I looked at several and my children ended up at Beverly Hills High School. Good program. Good Teachers. Good College prep. They pick classes at Santa Monica College a week earlier than anyone else as class get booked up quick after graduation. There is alot of private school around Los Angeles. Approx $15,000 to $25,000 a year tuition.

Hi Matt:

There are a few. University High School, Venice High School, Palisades High School (all Los Angeles Unified School District), Santa Monica High School and many private schools. There are also Magnet Programs at many of the schools as well. (Choice's Brochures for Magnet Programs are available online as of today at http://echoices.lausd.net/. Deadline for application is December 16, 2011)

It also depends on the needs of your child. Find the right school match for your child's needs.

I would suggest going onto their websites and viewing the demographics and scholastic results for each school and then visit them.

LAUSD: lausd.net
Santa Monica School District: http://www.smmusd.org/

Good luck and all the best,

Dear Matt,
Los Angeles Unified School Districts handle most of West Los Angeles area. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and Culver City have their own districts. To rate the different districts go to Great Schools. The link for that site is

Hi Mattisonteet:

There are basically 2 on the westside in LAUSD...Venice High School, which has several magnet schools and University High School, also has many magnets on it's campus. In Santa Monica, there is Santa Monica High School, in the Palisades, there is Palisades High School...and also in Culver City, Culver City High School.

Each school is very different based on demographics, magnet programs, location and test scores. There are 3 different cities involved here too.

I would suggest looking at them all. What are do you want to be in?

Here are the websites for the schools:
LAUDS: http://notebook.lausd.net/schoolsearch/selector.jsp
Santa Monica: http://www.smmusd.org/StudentServices/district_map.html
Culver City: http://www.ccusd.org/

Good luck!

All the best,

Kat
