As agents we are prohibited by law to advise on what neighborhoods are safer than others. However we can direct you to websites that may aid in the process.

As mentioned earlier, Trulia offers a crime map. Here is the link:

Best of luck!

As you can see from the many answers you received, there are a lot of Great Realtors to work with in the Scottsdale Area so call someone to get some personal guidance and resource referrals.

I would suggest you walk the neighborhood with your agent and talk to people who live there. Also call the local police and see what their take is on that neighborhood. If you dont have a realtor, send me an email and I can refer you to a wonderful one.
Fair Housing Laws prohibit agents and Realtors from responding to this question.

Where? FYI as a Realtor I am not allowed to comment on a neighborhood, not in these terms. Please consider using Google to seach more about the neighborhoods. Are you working with an agent, have them send you the Buyers Advisory here in AZ which includes a lot of using links, including a link for crime stats. In fact, I will look it up and inlcude it for you. I dont work outside Tucson, but please consider getting an agent to help you look for a house.

Crime Statistics
Crime statistics, an imperfect measurement at best, provide some indication of the level of criminal activity in an area. To check the crime statistics for the cities of Phoenix, Tempe, Glendale, Mesa, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert and Peoria, go to http://www.faxnet1.org or the city of Phoenix website

http://phoenix.gov/POLICE/crista1.html. A visit or phone call to other law enforcement agencies may be required.
Tucson: http://tpdinternet.tucsonaz.gov/Stats/.
For crime statistics in all Arizona cities go to http://www.azleague.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=about.cities click on the city/town and search for “crime statistics.”

As an agent, I make sure my clients are aware the type of neighborhood they plan to live in. I search for them and I make sure they are comfortable with the decision they are making.

There are always nice neighborhoods, and safe is a completely subjective question. Even the nice neighborhoods may have high crime, in fact, in Hawaii, one of my clients asked a police officer what the crime is like in Manoa, and they said there is at least one burglary a day. But most people would consider that a safe neighborhood. It's always good to check out a neighborhood your interested in at many different times on different days and see how you feel. If you don't feel safe, it is most likely not a safe place for you. You can always interview a police officer if they do comment, which usually they try to refrain from doing that. Hope that helps!

South Scottsdale has some terrific areas. Trulia (this site) just sent me a crime map that covers all areas. Try this link

If you're thinking of moving I really like the east valley.

Key West is about the safest place in America. There is only one road in and one road out, so the police are pretty quick. To my knowledge, there is not any really bad crimes committed. Drugs are our biggest problem.

I would definitely do my homework before settling on a neighborhood. Check the rankings on the local schools and also make sure there are sufficient after-school offerings to keep the neighborhood children engaged in constructive leisure activities (instead of mischief and vandalism). Check the police blotters for chronic disturbances in addition to criminal behaviors. And be sure to check Megan's list for registered sex offenders. I would also drive around a neighborhood you are considering in the evening. What looks safe in broad daylight might not seem so at night.

I always recommend that my clients drive around on their own when they are not already familiar with the Scottsdale or Phoenix area. This is a large city so you really need to see for yourself where you are comfortable and whether or not it fits your lifestyle.

A realtor is legally obligated to allow you to make that decision. We are not allowed to give that type of advice; so, the best action is for you to investigate the area you considering. Investigate at various times to get a general feel of the area. All situations have to reveal itself over time.

Hi Shirley

Are you working with an agent or Realtor? If not, I strong urge you too. One reason is I have all my clients review the Buyers Advisory & there is a wealth of information it provides. We can not comment on a neighborhood or how "safe" it is, however I am providing you with the links from the Buyers Advisory, this is where you can go to see the governments crime statistics. Hope this helps and please consider working with an agent or Realtor to help you. Take care and best of luck.

Shirley,
first determine your price range and then drive the areas that you're thinking of buying to see how it feels to you. That's the best thing you can do to start and then go from there. Good luck!!

By law any real estate agent can't steer you into any particular area stating it's safer, nicer, cleaner, etc. However, we can be resources to help you find the data that will assist you in determining those answers.

Your questions are very subjective as well. Not everyone will feel the same as you may feel if you visit an area to determine it's safety or cleanliness.

If you are interested in viewing any homes in the Scottsdale or surrounding areas, you can search data directly from our local Multiple Listing Database here: http://www.jameswehner.com

You can create your own custom searches and save them for future reference.

Hi Shirley!

There are lots of BEAUTIFUL neighborhoods in Scottsdale to choose from. Your first step will be to narrow down the price range you are looking to stay around, and you can begin your search for the perfect neighborhood from there.

When it comes to crime statistics, everyone has a different tolerance for crime, so the best thing would be for you to check out the available crime statistics websites. You may want to check out these sites:

http://www.homefair.com
http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/az/scottsdale/crime/
http://www.city-data.com
****There are lots more too, but these are a few my clients like.

Also, the local police department is super helpful as well! You can see their site here: http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/police

I am more than happy to answer any other questions you might have...please feel free to contact me directly anytime!

Hi Shirley,
This is the question that every buyer is wanting to ask. The websites are truly your best resource to find out about crime statsitics. Another question is what are home prices in the area? I can help you set up a search that will send you listings of properties that match your criteria. And you can see what homes are selling for in the community as well.
Even better is buying a property for only 1% down. Yes, this is as low as it gets. I can help you get qualified for this 1% down mortgage. This is cheaper than renting and has so many more benefits.
Visit my website and sign up today, it is a FREE service that I offer all my buyers and sellers.
Call me to discuss what amenities each community offers.

Hi, Unfortunately agents are restricted from talking about the crime in a neighborhood. You can visit http://www.homefair.com to get crime stats, demographic make up, etc. I would also contact the local police dept they will be glad to help.
