Any regulations on auto repair business working out of home in residential area in Barnegat, NJ?

Asked by Annoyed, Barnegat, NJ Sat Apr 28, 2012

New neighbor has an "advertised" 24 hr/7 day per wk auto repair business out of his home in residential neighborhood. Wouldn't care if they didn't 'start' the work after dark & continue
banging and racing engines until 10 pm!

You'll have to contact the Code Enforcement office in Barnegat. There are regulations about home based businesses and noise levels, but the specific information you need depends on the location. Contact the Code Enforcement Office at 609-698-0080 Ext. 159

We just had a new local shop open up. It's just outside our neighborhood, but the noise really doesn't reach us. It might just be a matter of location, which means that the HOA may not be able to do anything about it. It might come in handy if you have any car problems though! Thiago |

It might depend on what kind of licensing he has. I have never heard of anyone doing this, so I don't know if it is actually allowed or not. I've never thought about what would happen in this circumstance. I would probably ask around.

I think that if he has the right credentials to do so, it shouldn't be a problem. However, it is a matter of courtesy at this point. He should know better.

I have had the same question for quite some time. I have some pretty loud neighbors that work in auto repair. But they always help me out with my car troubles.

In your case I wouldn't do anything about the weird hours. Eventually I think you'll be able to sleep through the noise. Besides you only need three things to have a successful life- a good mechanic... I forgot what the other two are, but a good mechanic makes life a lot easier.

If you don't have a HOA to back you up, there's not much you can do, but try to tune it out. You may be thankful it's there if you have car trouble of your own. It's much more convenient than towing to a shop. I had a neighborhood who did the same kind of work. Thiago |

Not to my knowledge. I would talk to your neighbor about automotive repair colorado springs and then I would go to your HOA! (

I don't know of any in New Jersey, but I have heard lots of good things about the auto repair shop in calgary. You may want to check it out!
