In this economy? Hull has smaller houses than areas surrounding it. This can be good for economical heating and cooling. It's hard to get to a job from some parts of Hull. I think everything is trending down except maybe Sweden and the Netherlands. In trending down, is it trending down as much as nearby towns? Closer to the city and transportation are important. Hull has good public transportation compared to some places so not every member of the family as to have a car to get around which is good because Hull has very tight parking.
There are a lot of houses per square mile, so there are more people to support taxes. Because of the beach, Hull can attract tourist money in the summer but regular business have a hard time maintaining themselves if they have to pay for store or office space.
Because of Hull's remoteness, it has more small business than surrounding areas. This could be good because small businesses keep money in the area. School districts don't seem as important as they used to be since people seem to be having fewer kids.
The reputation of of the town will never be as good as surrounding towns because of the smaller house, more remote, beach. It is the beach club to Hingham and Cohasset's Yacht Club.
It's a highly mixed demography which means you could be rich or poor living in Hull. You don't have to keep up with the Joneses but then again you might find yourself with neighbors who park haphazardly in front of your house. I see Hull surviving with DIYs and the attraction of the beach.... more
Bethany, you post and interesting question. Does the home "need" flood insurance? Need is a yes if the home is in a flood plain. But given that Hull is so close to water being that the town just into Mass. Bay, flood insurance is always a good idea. Many homeowner policies don't cover flooding, so it is not always a question of need...... more
