Hi Susan,

I'm not sure what the extension requirements are but, a mason would be able to evaluate the issue and give you an estimate on getting it fixed if they deem it to be an issue. Many masonry companies are happy to provide a free estimate. Allied Concrete is company we've used many times and referred to many clients. Good luck, Susan!

The problem is the lintel may be undersized for the load. The steel lintel does not extend six inches wider than the opening on either side. Is this a common problem? Is it difficult to repair?

Hi Susan,

It depends on what is wrong with it. Typically, about the only thing really wrong with them is that they need to be scraped (to remove the rust) and then repainted with a rust-proof paint. That is typically everything that ever needs to be done with them. What did they say was the issue?
