Thanks for the plug Beth. We serve Philadelphia and Los Angeles but you can find other options for places all over the country through the Mobile Self-Storage Association's website.
There are other options too. PODS wouldn't deliver to a house I was staging in Philadelphia because the streets are narrow and space is tough to come by downtown. I found FlexBox with delivered 2 smaller storage pods and it worked out great. Client was happy and the logistics we're smooth for me.
And they deliver right to clients new home when they were done with storage.
Hi Alex,
We used the PODS type system once. Seemed to work pretty well, with the exception of one POD that was not packed very well. The furniture moved in transit and wound up too close to the door. It was really difficult to get the door open, though we eventually were able to open the POD. So, just remember to pack the POD carefully!
Good Luck

I would recommend looking at this type of service as well. We've used, and still do, storage pods and it was so much more pleasant than renting a truck and hauling stuff back and forth to a storage unit. Door to Door Moving & Storage, which utilizes a very similar pod system as PODS (actual pods are slighter smaller, which means they're also a little easier to load and not as much of an eyesore), is a great company. Pretty sure they offer moving and storage services across the country.
Alex,
I have used PODS twice once for my personal move ...and then as storage during a remodel. I would highly recommend the company.
For the move, it was very reasonable to pack and have the POD moved to my new place and I found it convenient to be able to pack/unpack the POD over several days. I still hired a mover to move the larger pieces of furniture.
For storage during a remodel; we just unpacked the POD that had been sitting for 10 months and everything was dry and in good shape.
I think it will save you some money.
Best of Luck with your move.

I've used PODS before. It's quite cost effective, if you don't mind packing your own boxes and loading the POD. You also need a certain amount of clearance around the POD for it to be dropped at your location. The one drawback I found was that we didn't pack our boxes and furnishings like a mover might and so things shifted a bit. Nothing broken, but something to consider when using this type of self-move method. A bargain compared to moving companies and even a truck rental, in my case.
I think it would be better for you if you have the time to sort and pack your things. You can pack and stick the boxes in the holder as you go. There would not be the packed boxes all over and you could be more organized and less stressed.
