Great advise on how to get started. I have been a Realtor for 10 years here in Oxford, MS, 7 of which I have worked full time. I love it and have plans to stay with it for many years to come. The flexibility of my schedule is great and the money can be very good but be prepared to be very patient, to be disappointed or to feel very satisfied at the end of the day that you truely had a hand in making someone's dream come true.Once you receive your license and decide which brokerage you would like to work with, go ahead and commit yourself to working as a full time agent, not as a part timer.Go to the office as much as possible. Act like a sponge and absorb all the knowledge you can from the experienced agents. I am blessed to be working with some of the finest, knowledgeable, and trustworthy agents in our town here at Remax Legacy Realty. Also take an active part in your local board of Realtors. Volunteer and attend state conventions where you can make great contacts all around the state.Good luck! Sharon

You've got good advice here. I just thought I'd drop in and say good luck. It's tough out there right now. Hope it all works for you.

Kari,

You can go to the Mississippi Real Estate Website http://(www.mrec.state.ms.us); there is a link to a mrec approved provider list on their homepage. I would also suggest that you contact your local junior college. I found the 2-week training provided by the "real estate schools" to be sadly lacking. Hinds Junior College offers a 6-9 hr course program that should give you more substance.

Also, before you begin your program I suggest you talk with some of your local realtors. Ask them about market conditions in the Starkville area. With the current market conditions, many long-time, successful realtors are leaving the profession. This is a difficult time to get started in this tough profession.

Keri,

Google "real estate schools" in your location. This will give you a basis to begin your educational component. Just being in the classes will open up doors for you.

Good luck,
The "Eckler Team"

9 out of 10 new agents quit 2 years of getting their license

This is a difficult profession. Think carefully before investing in this career

First you should find a real estate company in your area with a good record and stability like Coldwell Banker and asked them for the best school in the area. Also Coldwell Banker has a great program after you get your liscense. They have the best training schools in the country. This would be a good place to start.
