We bought a home in Cary/Oakwood Hills, IL back in 2006 & wound up significantly depleting retirement savings while we were stuck owning/maintaining two homes for nearly a full year. Panic hit so we put both up for sale & didn't even care which sold. Finally sold the one in which we had lived for 20 years & moved to the Cary/Oakwood Hills home in 7-07, but now find similar homes in the neighborhood offered for sale at less to much less than we paid, so we're trying to appeal our real estate tax bill. With the market freefall, we are even worse off re retirement, need tax relief & may never be able to stop working - but I digress... In order to appeal our tax bill, we have to submit two or three comparables to McHenry County, Illinois with a whole bunch of details & only have until 12-1-08 to do so. How can one get the level of detail required by the County & find pricing and tax ID stuff for comparables that can help us win our planned appeal? NEED MAJOR HELP & GUIDANCE QUICKLY!!
Hi Ray
In taking a look at your past 3 years of taxes, it looks as if there was not an appeal done last December. I would be happy to help you in providing comps. It is never to late to appeal and my office is right in Cary.
Give me a call.

Hi Ray,
I agree with Sylvia, Go back to the Realtor who sold you the property. It should be no trouble for them to give you all of the information you need for an appeal to the county. Good luck!

Hi Ray:
How about ask the agent who represented you in 2006 to provide you with comparables the county is asking for to help you with your appraisal issue?
The agent should be able to give you detailed comparables, tax ID. etc for the homes with minimum effort and he/she should not charge you for this service. They should also know the urgency of the matter and do it speedily just like when they try to get your business before.
If he/she would not do that, you can get referrals from your friends for another realtor for this and future service.
This is the kind of things I will do for my past / current clients - our relationship does not end after close of escrow - they become my lifetime clients.
Best,

you can use a certified appraisal or a brokers price oppinion to get the information you need. as well you can get a copy of the listing sheet of the sold property, that will detail what you need.
