Can someone give me a definitive answer regarding section 8 in Irvington?

I'm looking into a couple of multi-family properties in Irvington. HUD's web site says that they will allow $1103 per month rent for a 2 BR, and $1320 for a 3 BR in Essex county. However, when I call on the phone, they tell me that it's only $876 for a 2BR and $1067 for a 3 BR. When I explain that their web site says something completely different, they act like I'm from another planet.

I need exact figures so I can determine whether this is going to be worth investing in. Does anyone know exactly how this works?

More than likely the lower numbers came after you indicated what utilities tenants are responsible to pay. The higher numbers are likely what is paid to landlords carrying all expenses.

There might be a county, municpal, or tenant contribution to the monthly rent. Check with Irvington and Essex County.
