is a fha appraisal used for a va loan appraisal?

recently received an appraisal for a FHA loan buyer; must it be used or considered for a VA loan purchase appraisal?

To answer your question: NO. To expand: We order FHA appraisals through appraisal management companies (or in house appraisal desk) that order FHA loan appraisals through FHA certified appraisers that are on their rosters. We order VA loans through VA and the lender has no say or influince on that list(roster) regardless of the lender. Those appraisers are are VA certified. Often times the appraiser is FHA and VA certified. The big difference is service. VA appraisals are typically slower in my experience. VA allows 10 days for appraisal and 5 days for review. There is not a lot different between the two appraisals though. FHA and VA appraisals are like twins, but they are not the exact same. I deal with this every week.

Additionally, FHA and VA appraisals are good for a different time period. Are you selling the home by yourself? Did you get the appraisal? Did the buyer get the appraisal? No. FHA and VA are different. VA is much more intensive than FHA.

VA has their own appraisers and they have up to 15 days to conduct said appraisal which can slow down the loan process. But to answer your question "no" VA will conduct their own appraisal process for a purchase under the VA program.

Here in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton the VA purchase looks better in reference to appraisal.

Also as other Professionals are expressing an FHA Appraisal is different then a VA .

Hi Tyson,

I've recently had problems with a VA Appraisal inspection where they would not allow a buyer to get the house with a roof that was "certified" by a licensed roofer to have 3-4 years of remaining life.

With FHA the roof only has to have 2 years remaining life.

Also if your house was built before 1978 you better make sure there isn't any peeling paint inside or out or you could have an issue because of the possibility of lead based paint

Hi Tyson,

FHA and VA are different. If the buyer is getting an FHA loan, they will have to have an FHA approved appraiser used. If the buyer is getting a VA loan, they will use a VA appraiser.
