I answered your other question before seeing this one, so I apologize if I was being a little judgemental. However, like I said in my previous post, all you can do is call them and begin the dialogue. Be open and honest about your circumstances and hope for the best. Just realize that modifications are dealt with on a case by case basis because the variables of everyone's loan and cirumstances differ.
I would think that divorce would be a hardship. Lenders are going to look at your capability to pay the mortgage and if you are incapable then they may be able to do a modification, however they may determine that the best action is to sell the home or god forbid let it go into foreclosure.
Like I said, it depends, but you'll never know unless you ask. Good luck!
