We are getting the $7500 tax credit for buying a home last year. But we are selling it and we have only been there for one year. We have used the $7500 for remodeling it but we wont make a profit and cant pay back the $7500 now. What will happen?
Instead of selling, why don't you think about doing a lease option? You could get some money up-front and have someone pay the mortgage payment and not triger a sale clause until the property is actualy closed.
Hi Ccatamayo,
I agree with Howard, the person best able to help you with this question would be a tax specialist. These rules are so new and often times confusing, And they kind of dropped it in the middle to come up with the New $8000 incentive, so your best bet is with a professional who deals with taxes all the time.
If you don't have a tax specialist, I would be happy to recommend someone to you who can answer your question. Just email me and I will give you his name and number.

Hello Ccatamayo,
I would advise you to speak with you tax specialist. There are some situations where the Tax Credit does not have to be repaid if a buyers sells their home within the initial 3 years of purchase.
