billing us Several years ago my husband owned and sold a multi-family in upstate NY. Flash forward to a couple months ago, we find out through a failed mortgage application that gas company never removed the 'leave on for landlord' and was billing him for the last several years (we've since moved a couple times and never recieved a bill and it only showed up on his credit report this year). The gas company won't remove the billing unless we get the current owner to take the debt and provide them with his social security number which is difficult since he 1) bought the house through a business and is from Australia and 2) has been getting away with not paying whenever the tenants move out. Is he really responsible for this bill? Is this a question for a lawyer dealing with properties or debt?

He shouldn't be. Sometimes things like this require legal action. You have proof you sold the home call around to some local attorneys for advice.
