Our realtor keeps giving us the run around and making us do things to the home we have in escrow...like now he wants us to put 12 co2

Putting in a carbon monixide detector is a required state law....so it is not your Realtor coming up with the request...it is mandated. I gather that you are selling your home...other mandates include having a water heater strapped properly and an adequate number of fire detectors.

Hi dnrm85,

CO detectors are now required in CA as of July 1, 2011. Check with your local building code department on how may you need. 12 seems like alot unless you have several floors to the house and several bedrooms. Usually, it's at least 1 per floor and 1 in each bedroom. However, it depends on when the house was built too. Again, you can call your local building code department and they can let you know how many you are required to install and where they need to be installed. Also, check with them to see if they can just be battery operated ones or if they have to be hard-wired.

The carbon monoxide detectors are required by the State along with some other minimum requirements. Your agent is most likely not actually giving you the run around but perhaps isn't an excellent communicator. Ask your agent to explain everything that is required of you as the seller. Read over your contract, it should be spelled out in there.
