If I add my daughter to the deed of a home I own that she lives in, can she claim homstead?

Asked by Audrey Myers, Ocala, FL Tue Aug 30, 2011

If her name is on the deed with mine, can a lien be placed on the home for a debt of hers?

In almost every case, it is not advisable to add the name of a child to a deed for the very reason you specify. Any debt of that child can then be satisfied from the value of the home.
