I live in Parma Ohio and would like to know if adding a kitchen in the basement help value of the house

Asked by Jack Sparrow, Parma, OH Mon May 5, 2008

I am looking into adding a full kitchen into my basement that will include a range, refrigirator, sink and a dishwasher .. Will that raise the value of my house .. I have a full basement that measures 50 feet by 25 feet with a block wall in the middle ..

There are plenty of homes in Parma with what used to be called a "Summer Kitchen." This is probably what you have seen. Finding one is an oddity, adding one, unless it could be part of an in-law suite probably won't get you much return on your dollar.

Adding a full or half bath, replacement windows or a 2 car garage ( if yours is currently a 1 car ) are usually difference makers. As for finishing the basement, it is a good idea but I'd still recommend a full bath rather than a kitchen down there !

I second that. I would finish the basement into a rec room and divide it (if possible) to add an office/guest bedroom too. That will definately add value.

No adding a kitchen in the basement will not add value to your home ,unless the basement has a walk-out to outside.
