I have a large attatched workshop that does not have a/c or heat. Can I include this in the square footage if I put in a window unit? I am in Florida.

The workshop is attatched to the back of the house, and it includes 2 small rooms, and 1 large room. It is about 900 square feet.

I agree with the other answers that you can include it in the total square footage but not as living sq ft. especially if it is a workshop and not living area.

However Myke was right that adding a window unit would not qualify it for living sq ft. It would have to be done in the same fashion as the home.

You can count it in as TOTAL SQUARE FOOTAGE, but not Liveable Area. Just like qa garage is included in Total Square Feet only.

Are you paying taxes on the extra 900 square feet in your property taxes as living space? If so then yes you can add it to the sq. footage of the property. Just because you do not have a/c doesn't mean it can't be added to the"total" square footgage footprint of the house, it shouldn't however be added to the under air square footage.

Hi Dal,

No, it cannot--it must be heated and cooled to the same level as the home in order to be included in the sq footage
