I am measuring a home (story and a half). Upstairs the dormers are the only thing that extends passed the

roof. I know you should add 6 for exterior walls when measuring from inside. What about the outside walls of the living area still under the roof but just have the attic on the other side; add 4 or 6 inches?

I don't know the customs in your area, howvever where we work we never measure. Too much liability. There are companies that will measure and provide a nifty layout you can use in your marketing.
Perhaps where you are the practice is accepted.

I believe it is standard practice to measure the living area from the Outside of the property...
