I am a Realtor whom also has to deal with many agents who should not be in the business. There is a good majority of sensational professionals out there. Instead of wasting your efforts on trying to market your home on your own, take your previous experiences on qualifying your next agent. You know what you want and expect from a Realtor, perform an interview with several and narrow it down to one you feel will best service your requirements.
It is not rocket science when selling a home. It does not take much effort to procure an interested party. The real aspect of hiring a professional is to guarantee bringing the deal to the table.
A true Realtor will be able to reach many more potential buyers faster and more efficiently than a private individual can.
Rockspot the Multiple Listing Service is not an advertising medium but a broker to broker exchange of properties available and the unconditional offer of compensation for the sale of a cooperative listing. If you choose to work with a fee for service listing broker you will get what is spelled out in the contract. You can ask them for more services but be prepared for the fees that go along with them.
Sorry you had bad experiences with your previous listing agents but from the description of what they did that is not the way all of the people in the industry work.
Rockspot,
Sorry to hear about your Realtor experiences. That's got to be a record, but not in a good way.
My experience has been this; usually MLS only listings get limited attention at best. [fewer pictures, shortened descriptions ect], that hurts your exposure. Most Buyers are searching the internet alot before they spend the time on the streets. Limited marketing means that they just move on the the next listing. This might be part of your problem or not. Also, the higher the price point, the less inclined that some Buyers are willing to deal with FSBO and that goes for Realtors to. [they have their reasons, some valid some not]
If you still want to DIY, you might try delivering flyers to real estate offices in your area, and/or providing extra incentives to the selling agents. [read your listing agreement first to make sure you are not violating any clauses]
Right now, UA is experiencing a good bit of activity, there are 221 active listings averaging $532k. and in the past 6 mos 265 homes have sold in an average of 88 days for about $291k.
If you are priced right & backed by good marketing, there is a good chance you will sell your home.
Best of luck,
Bill Buettner
I agree, ask them to post it on Trulia. I am sorry to hear about your Realtor Experiences. Always interview several until you get the best suited to your needs. The chances of getting two or three is VERY SLIM! Also, most Realtor Listings are designed to bring all other Realtors to you---dramatically increasing your exposure, thus chance to sell. They pay the Realtor that brings the buyer, you know. Perhaps these particular ones did not explain their plans up front. I recently had a seller criticize me for not bringing as many buyers as 'the other companies;' but I explained that that was the idea--to encourage them to. Had I not; the seller would have been cheated.
Hi Rockspot,
Thank you for your question. We actually do have relationships with over 100 MLSs and we fully understand your concerns about this. We have a team dedicated to working with MLSs and this is an on going project. The MLS industry has not embraced the internet as quickly as other parts of the real estate industry and therefore not all MLSs syndicate to sites like Trulia.
I recommend that you approach your flat fee broker and request that they submit your listing to Trulia. It's very easy to do and if they create a listing data feed they can submit all of their listings to our site as well.
I also encourage you to create a blog about your home that you can use to get more exposure for your home. Blogging on Trulia is extremely easy and you can add links, photos and even videos. To create a blog just access the link below and please let us know if you have any other questions.
Best Wishes,

Chris,
Another TU from me. :)
Hello Rockspot, There are other ways to get on trulia.com see the link...
Chris, I read your answers to questions earlier and complement you. There are no hard feelings, I was having a bad moment and though I stand by every single thing I said, there is little doubt I could have been far more diplomatic.
It's mostly the frustration of seeing the many Bad agents do so much harm to the Credibility of the Truely Professional agents and the blantant attack/slander against others in order to fish FSBO or any other thread for clients. Unlike the true Professionals they are feeling the effects of the distain for agents by many that they created in the first place.
I do not in anyway count you among those I may have been undiplomatic in naming. (But not inaccurate) ; )
I do thank-you very much for being Professional and considerate enough to respond in a much more diplomatic and effective way than I'm usually capable of.
Hope to see you and your helpful answers around often.

Hi Guys & Gals,
Dunes and rockinblu, I see that you're calling me out and I certainly respect your right to do so. You are correct, I am just getting my feet wet at Trulia, and social media networking in general. I have been participating here for less than a week, which certainly makes me a "newbie". I'm certainly not experienced enough to evaluate an opinion on anyone. I shouldn't be so quick to judge. I realize that as I become more familiar with Trulia I will be able to more quickly identify the subculture that exists here. As of yet, I haven't had the chance to review the profiles of regular participants. I see that you have been at this for a while and are much more familiar with what goes on here. I hope that you will not hold it against me that I'm a "newbie" and forgive my ignorance. But stick with me and you will find that I'm a pretty fast learner. I'm not participating in Trulia to make accusations, point fingers or categorize people. On that note, I would like to take this opportunity to withdraw my statement about you being anti-agent. When I read your comments about " snake-oil, sleezy spammer, say anything to get business bags of doggie do do" it comes off like a rant by someone who has had some really bad experiences and I can't help but take that as anti-agent. But, I have seen the error of my ways!
I agree that for every good agent, there are probably 10 more that are not. Which explains why the public's view of real estate agents is so poor. (TJ's comment) I come across agents like this all the time, and it amazes me that they are still in business. I have been amazed at some of the comments and suggestions I've seen posted and I have already seen the "sleezy spammers" who are obviously not participating here to serve the public, just serve themselves. But it is not my place to repremand them.
I'm participating in Trulia because I'm interested in what the public and real estate community has to say. At the same time, I feel that I can share some of my knowledege and experiences to help people. With that, I hope to establish a reputation that will ultimately earn me business and referrals. I like to do a little good now and then too.
Hopefully, the public uses Trulia for what it is, source for gathering information to help them make educated decisions. I know there are people out there who are asking questions about life altering decisions, and I can only hope that they seriously consider the source of advice before they take it. I really like the fact that there are people like you who find an interest in what goes on here on Trulia. You are definetely entitled to your opinions and I can only encourage you to continue to share them. Myself, I have a professional reputation and image to maintain. I'm not here to share opinions so much as try to give good, solid, ethical advice. And I hope to learn something too. If you take a minute or two to read some of my contributions then I hope you will find that I am achieving this goal. BTW, thanks to rockinblu for the TU on the shoes question!
A few more thoughts: You are correct in pointing out that my answer to Rockspot's question was not on topic. I see now what he was really asking. I will be more careful in the future to fully acknowledge the actual question being asked. Thanks for pointing this out, as I have noticed many answers can easily get off topic. On that note, talk about getting off topic! Is it really appropriate to have this conversation here? Sorry Rockspot! Share with me the etiquette for exchanging this type of dialog.
I'm interested in what you guys have to say and look forward to hearing more from you.
No hard feelings!(?)
Chris
Small edit to my last post.:
"if you had a chance to read Dunes' profile before his last edit in the "About Me" section, you would realize that he has probably been of more help in people's lives than most agents ever will."
It presently reads as below, which could possibly be misconstrued:
"if you had a chance to read Dunes' old profile, you would realize that he has probably been of more help in people's lives than most agents ever will."
He isn't anyone who would hide behind multiple profiles. I wish I could say the same for myself. Long story about my former agent monitoring my posts on Zillow regarding cancelling, among other things. No need to go any further.
Rockspot,
Thanks very much for the BA vote. It could not have come at a better time.
Dunes,
Wow! Thanks for your support. It seems Chris has just joined Trulia, and unfortunately maybe not at the best time to evaluate an accurate opinion of both of us, given what has taken place here of late. BTW, I see the agent/multi-profiler from last week had his secondary attack profile removed. I really found it exceptionally sleazy that with his second profile the name "Miranda" is actually the last name of a colleague in the same city.
Chris,
If I am so anti-agent, why would I even have bothered to give you an acknowledgment on the "shoe" thread
(link below). Check out the second answer.

Dunes and I try to be helpful with posts that are informative, and also try to bring some balance to so many over the top agent posts that should be an embarrassment to the profession. While 99.9% of my posts are plagerized from much more knowledgable people than me, if you had a chance to read Dunes' old profile, you would realize that he has probably been of more help in people's lives than most agents ever will. That need to help is further exhibited, appreciated, and respected by most everyone that has followed his posts on this forum, and I'm sure this includes agents as well.
By the way, welcome to Trulia.
Chris, all you have to do is check any of my comments from the day I first got here to now to know I'm not anti-agent. Perhaps knowing who you are putting into a category before you do so would better serve you.
If you wish to defend those agents I do refer to then please do so, right here, right now or at least have the courtesy to notice I do talk about good agents/professionals that do help people here.
Why don't you go out and be as vocal in your disapproval of agents that Spam or provide unsupported comments to persuade people to buy when it may not be in their best interests?
Now if you do those things already then you know how it feels to be judged by one comment especially since I don't think you really read what I said anyway.
At least now you can be sure I'll pay attention to your contributions, why don't you go to my profile and check mine. Then tell me how anti-agent I am.
Dunes
PS. Your answer shows you didn't read the question very well.
Hello Rockspot,
You ask a ligitimate question, and somehow your post ends up as a sounding board for people that are anti-agent. I am sorry about that. If you have a listing in your area MLS, then it should be fed out to Trulia. It's not that you are a for sale by owner, in which case you wouldn't be able to advertise here. But you did actually "list" with a broker, your home is in MLS, so it should be on Trulia. Is the listing brand new? It may take a little while to show up. You may want to try Trulia tech support.
Rockinblu you are worth 10,000 of the snake-oil, sleezy spammer, say anything to get business bags of doggie do do that Trulia explains away as newbies or deserving of a stern email. I get upset everytime I feel they are driving people like you away by not controlling the used car salepeople who possess an RE license.
They don't have anything like you suggest Rockspot because a large number of Agents would have a Cow. The agents who have no value spend all day posting about their value while the agents that are Professionals get lumped in with the losers because there are just so many of them.. The last thing Desperate agents (and they are desperate) want is for anyone to think they could do any of this without them. After all they consider themselves to be Comparable in their worth to the public with Doctor & Lawyers and will explain that they are just as well trained.
Rockinblu, YOU actually help people here and I hope you don't stop. As far as anyone who attempts to make you feel unwelcomed....God help them, cause I'll yell at them in my high-pitched immature way until Trulia shuts me up for good. I have been getting 2-10 emails a day asking me questions which I now respond to by email where before I would send them here to get other opinions than mine. Some of them I've referred to other members I feel can help them better than I can.
The point I'm making is if you only are able to help 1 or 2 people a week that's more than the 10,000 snake-oil people will ever help in all the time they are here. Don't cheat the people you help here and help point them to the agents like Alan, Dana, David, Mark & Kari, Gary Smith, Gregory Bain, and many others who will actually represent their profession in a way that proves they are deserving of the publics trust and our support.
I've been thinking about this a lot and sincerely think that even though Trulia has reached the pamper the agent stage it doesn't cancel out the fact that people like Rockspot can get something from someone like you. Besides you need to answer questions to help repair the damage I do with mine. Someone needs to protect the public from me.
Rockinblu Fan,
Dunes
Rockspot,
Trulia is hardcore pro agent and seems to becoming a place where non-pros such as myself giving advice are not welcome as well. There are simply too many other sites out there that play the game fairly to worry about this one. See the post by David Chamberlain on the the thread attached to the first link below. Also, you may want to check out my blog that is attached to the second one. Good luck.
